Ipod Doodle & Requests!

Hey guys!

The new video for Thursday is a Cartoon Ipod, so if you haven't checked it out yet, here's the link :)

I've also got some news for you all...from now until Christmas any requests sent in (either through e-mail or comments on this blog post) will be made into a tutorial! (Of course, they have to be both draw-able and appropriate, which has been no problem in the past!)

I've been reading your Youtube comments as well, which I love to do and especially on the new videos, I've read every single one of them :). There's some awesome request ideas on there too so if you've commented recently, you're request is probably on the line up!

I'm excited for the next few weeks and all the new doodle ideas and I hope you are too!

40 Thousand Subscribers :D

Wow, I could not be more excited right now. Recently, as I had just checked back today, the Doodlekat1 channel has reached past 40,000 subscribers! I cannot believe it. Seriously, it's so difficult to explain how something like this can mean so much to me.

I want to thank you ALL. I realize that Doodlekat1 is probably not a huge deal in your life, which is totally expected! But you guys check in for new videos, comment, request, and share my videos like I could never have asked for. It's truly incredible. I don't believe I deserve it whatsoever -- I just draw in front of a camera! But thanks to you guys this has turned into something. I can't thank you enough.

Now that I've got all that mushy stuff out of the way, I just want to update you on what's going on with my channel. For the next few weeks at least, you can expect videos every TUESDAY and THURSDAY! That's not saying that there won't be more in between then, but for now I just wanted to give you guys some days you could depend on, as many of you have asked for and patiently waited for.

Christmas is approaching so you can expect plenty more Christmas and winter themed doodles, but you can also expect plenty of other things as well! I've got some animals on the line up as well as something that's never been featured on doodlekat1 so I'm excited for that as well!

Here's a lineup preview in celebration of 40,000!

December 3rd (today!) : How to Draw a Cartoon Snowflake
December 5th: How to Draw a Cartoon Snowflake v2 (version 2)
December 7th: How to Draw a Cartoon Reindeer
December 10th: How to Draw a Cartoon Manatee

So as you can see, there's a variety already. I can't wait to check back and see what you guys think of the videos and what you want to see next from me for Christmas!

Thanks again so much! I'm so greatful for every single one of my amazing fans!

Daily Doodle: August 29th

Hey Doodlers!

I'm really excited about today's doodle -- yesterday I found my old ink and paintbrush set I had used when I use to paint frequently. I tried it out for today's doodle and look at that! It's very similar to marker.

The thing about ink though is you can control how dark the lines are, which is harder to do with marker. As you can see, I made the dirt lines lighter as well as the stripe on the pot. The darkest part here is where the flower's center is.

Another thing I love about ink is you can control how thick or thin you want the lines to be! That's great when it comes to making the end of a leaf really pointy, or if you want thinner lines for details on the flower and thicker ones as the pot's outline.

If you ever get a chance, I recommend trying out painting with ink! You can usually find a small container like the one in the picture for pretty cheap at craft stores. If you've ever compared the two, let me know which one you prefer for cartooning! It seems each cartoonist has his or her own preference.

Daily Doodle: August 28th

Hey Guys!

Since it's still summer I thought it'd be appropriate to draw my favorite summer drink for today's doodle! Recently I've been using my fine tip washable markers, and it's been fun picking just a few colors and seeing what you can make using them. Also with the pink, instead of coloring in the entire straw, I drew stripes instead!
In other doodlekat news, How to Draw a Hermit Crab has just been published today! If you haven't checked it out already, you can find it here: http://youtu.be/7PrvPSpnCcs

Also be sure to check back tomorrow for another daily doodle -- this entire week is going to be packed full of videos and blog posts!

Daily Doodle: August 27th

Hey Doodlers!

Hope you had an awesome summer! It's amazing that school's already starting up again. On the positive side, that means a lot more notebooks, folders and binders to decorate with drawings!

For today's doodle, I though I'd add some color to this sketch of a globe by cross-hatching. As you can see in the green, there are two different colors there. The light green I used to color in the continents, and then for the cross-hatching detail I took a darker green and drew horizontal and vertical lines across. I didn't want the water to overpower the continents, so instead of cross-hatching, I just added vertical lines in a darker blue. What do you think? I'm liking this new way to color in!

QUICK DOODLE CHANNEL UPDATE:

If you've been following along with my videos, you've probably noticed that there's been a lot more out recently! I'm hoping to keep this up for a while and then I'll probably pick a day to put out a weekly video. However when this happens, you can expect a lot more activity on my blog. I'm planning on posting daily doodles, features of fan-drawn doodles, and maybe even a secret challenge or two!

As always, if you have any requests, send 'um in! Also be sure to check out the 2 new pages added to the blog-- info about fan-drawn doodles and a link to my channel!

Doodling: A Deeper Meaning (:p)

Hi guys!

Today I wanted to let you know about an upcomming F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions) but I didn't want to post a post without a doodle, so I decided to draw the Draw Your Lunch tag, which is where you doodle the foods you ate for lunch. Here it goes!

Today I ate some asian noodles (yum!), an apple, and a fastfood iced tea.

What I've learned from today's doodle:

Originally I did not like this doodle. I wanted to try again and make it more detailed and interesting. I'd probably switch up the layout and spend more time on the cup lid and the straw. Also the shadow--not really fitting.

However, the thing about this doodle is that it's just that--a doodle! If I were to spend all this time on it redrawing the same picture, then it would become a drawing, and maybe even feel like homework.

The cool thing about doodleing is that your doodles not have to be perfect. It's about taking ideas in your head and transporting them to paper. Did you know that Doodlekat1 was almost called DoodleIdeas? That's because that's what doodling allows us to do--focus more on ideas than the actual techniques of drawing.

Moral of the story-- try not to get too caught up in how "good" something may look to you. Doodling should be fun! And the fun happens when you don't care about technicality and instead put on paper the wildest, most impossible thing imaginable that no one else could have ever come up with! That's when you feel like you've drawn something "good". :)

Hopefully this has made some sense to you, and like I always say here at the Doodlekat1 blog,
Keep Doodling!

INFO ABOUT THE FAQ:

I've been reciving a lot of questions lately about things like how I got started in youtube, how I got my views, etc. So I though I'd post an answer to those questions all in one blog post, so if you've got a question you'd like me to answer, be sure to send it in to doodlekat1@live.com before the end of next week! Thanks!

Bunny to Easter Bunny

Hi guys!

I've been getting a lot of requests lately to draw an Easter Bunny, which is a good idea with Easter so close! I decided to take you up on your request with a blog post, inspired by How to Draw a Cartoon Bunny (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbzdvshvId4).

After drawing the head shape, you can draw a ribbon by adding a rectangle
and half of a bow

the flower off to the side

different color combinations

The final Easter Bunny scene

So there you have it, the Easter Bunny is probably a lot easier than you thought since you already knew how to draw a bunny! If you've been inspired to make Easter cards, be sure to send me a photo to feature on the Featured Doodles page:D

Easter Egg Coloring

Hi there!

Since it's almost Easter, I though it'd be appropriate to do a couple Easter themed videos. The first one I just added to day is How to Draw Easter Eggs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTlhZ90PW7A), which shows you three simple Easter Egg designs. At the end of the video I mentioned that color would really make this cartoon pop! So to show you what I mean, I decided to color a few of these in with marker.

Looks a ton better right?
If you've colored in your eggs like I did, be sure to send a photo to me at: doodlekat1@live.com and you might get featured on this blog:)
Oh and also if you check back in the next few weeks you might see some more easter features!
